Google Confirms Chrome App Launcher to Retire in July

Google on Tuesday announced that it will soon kill its Chrome app launcher for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Confirming the news, Marc Pawliger, Engineering Director, in a blog post explained that while the app launcher helped easily open Chrome apps outside the browser, Google found that users on Windows, Mac, and Linux preferred to launch their apps from within Chrome.

"With Chrome's continued emphasis on simplicity and streamlining browser features, the launcher will be removed from those platforms. It will remain unchanged on Chrome OS," added Pawliger.

The removal process will take several months, and the company will be starting by removing the existing instances of the launcher in July. Starting in a few weeks, users will be no longer able to use the launcher when first installing the Chrome app. The company will soon inform anyone who currently has the launcher with a notice saying that the launcher will be going away.

Users can still access Chrome apps by clicking the apps shortcut in the bookmarks bar or typing chrome://apps in the omnibox.

Google stressed that the removal of Chrome App launcher is part of the company's strategy to streamline browser features. Last year, Google removed the Chrome desktop notification centre saying that not many users visited the notification centre and some disabled it, which made the feature pointless. Google had also announced that it would stop supporting Chrome Web browser on older operating systems. It will discontinue support for Chrome on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and OS X 10.8 or lower versions after April 2016.

Critics favorite, a movie completely shot on Go Pro cameras - Hardcore Henry ready for its India release on 8th April!

Director Ilya Naishuller is touted as a cult film-maker with this one of its kind directional venture

Hardcore Henry” began with Russian-born filmmaker Ilya Naishuller’s groundbreaking, irreverent video “Bad Motherf*cker.” Shot almost entirely on GoPro cameras with custom engineered rigs, “Hardcore Henry” completely abandons, even eviscerates, traditional filmmaking and replaces it with a raw and immediate experience, allowing the audience to become one with the protagonist, so viewers go on a very personal and breathtaking journey with Henry.  The movie was shot on location in Moscow and plays out like a punk rock travel guide to the city. Once every few years, comes a film that defies the way films are seen and consumed; the way stories are portrayed on screen. Come 2016, the world will get to witness one such phenomenon titled Hardcore Henry, Directed by Ilya Naishuller who makes his feature film debut. Hardcore Henry gives birth to a filmmaker who is being defined by international critics as the next cult director such as a Quentin Tarantino whose film-making skills and techniques are unique. The film premiered in 2015 at the Toronto International Film Festival winning itself the Peoples Choice Award, one of the highest honours at the leading film fest.

To take the concept from a short to a feature film, Naishuller and his team conducted hundreds of stabilization tests with GoPro rigs – there had to be enough balance between the hyper kinetic scenes and the more static (relatively speaking) portions.  Achieving that balance required a fair amount of R&D, trial and error and blind faith but the payoff was worth it. First person POV helped to decide on the tone of the story and Henry’s character arc."Shooting the film exclusively from Henry’s POV meant that I couldn’t cut away or do a close up on the lead actor’s face to convey his emotion. So Henry would have to physically do something for the audience to feel his reaction. This led to an interesting process of discovery and a lot of physical humor and lighter moments came from these limitations." Ilya Naishuller (Writer/Director/Producer)

Shortly after ‘Bad Motherf*cker’ debuted on YouTube and started to explode on the web, Gregg DiLeo, who was head of Sports Marketing for GoPro, reached out to Ilya to congratulate him. So when we decided to shoot the film with GoPro cameras, I contacted Gregg, told him about our film and asked him if he could help us. David Newman from GoPro, who is a Senior Director of Engineering agreed to help up with all things technical and did. Gregg DiLeo would find a way to Fedex cameras to Moscow on day’s notice, and Dave would frequently answer emails about tech questions in the middle of the night. We literally couldn’t have done it without them,” Inga Vainshtein Smith, Producer says.

“GoPro gave us access to some proprietary software that allowed for exposure control that they've since incorporated into the latest generation of their cameras. We were also expecting to break quite a few cameras, but during my shooting block we only busted two or three. We had about a dozen GoPro HERO3 Black Editions that GoPro provided us with. During one of the breaks from the shooting, GoPro released the HERO 3+ but we decided to keep using the original HERO3 to keep the picture consistent.

“The camera rig was the most important piece of tech in getting the film to look and feel right. We hired an engineer friend of mine, Vladimir Kotihov, who was oddly enough, an American football player and knew a thing or two about helmets. We spent a long time designing and redesigning the helmet while simultaneously designing the stabilization system. It was magnet based and we went through about five or six prototypes. The first one looked like a medieval torture device before we got it where we needed it – something that provided good stabilization, light enough to not put too much pressure on the wearer and strong enough to withstand hits and general damage during the heavy-duty shoot. The final touch was attaching a Teradek transmitter and a zoom mic on it,” Seva Kaptur (Director of photography) recalls.

After winning accolades, the film is set to release alongside its international release on 8th of April in India. The film follows the intriguing story of Henry who is brought back from the dead by his wife. The film them unfolds as the audience experience the film shot as a first person perspective. Henry's wife is abducted leading to mysterious circumstances and he must somehow with a bleak memory reach to the kidnapper Akan who is a notorious warlord. Unfortunately everyone is out there to kill him except a strange man called Jimmy who Henry could or could not trust. The thrill and action unfolds as things take sharp turns around the movie's plot.

Hardcore Henry is being distributed and marketed in India by PVR Pictures.

We will be launching a super awesome update to Testify App with a whole new UI for Android by this weekend. You can check the existing app (8000 downloads) here: Google Play
Here's how testify can play a role in your life:
* Add subtitles, fast forward, crop, trim, merge your videos any time anywhere
* Associate & follow amazing digital influencers, bloggers, travellers, photographers who share reviews and experiences on the app

Finally i can say its Amazing app Very useful in editing videos and sharing them. Takes less than a minute to upload a video. This has become one of my favourite apps recently. Definitely a must have!
