"Our certification program was designed to ensure that top gaming hardware sounds amazing on Discord," said Eros Resmini, CMO at Discord. "We are happy to certify that the CORSAIR VOID headsets will deliver a great experience for Discord gamers."

Discord is one of the fastest growing free communication programs for desktop as well as smartphones which offers gamers an all-in-one, high-quality voice and chat experience. While other gaming communication programs are stagnant for years, Discord constantly offers new content and updates based on users' need. Getting the best out of Discord needs audio hardware that's up to the task and that is where Discord certification comes in. It is a comprehensive array of tests and evaluations that ensures gaming headsets not only work flawlessly with Discord, but also a wide range of most popular PC games played today. Headsets are analyzed using studio level equipment to test both microphone and audio quality, with extreme tolerances for crackle, static and pops that might degrade the auditory experience. Headsets must also pass a rigorous comfort and compatibility play test in a wide array of today's most popular games, from Triple A to Indie. Discord's testers aren't just technicians, but former professional gamers with years of experience who value quality, comfort and durability.

"We jumped at the opportunity for our VOID headsets to be independently tested and certified by the team at Discord," said Andrew Ware, Senior Director for Gaming Peripherals at CORSAIR. "With 11 Million registered users, Discord is becoming an essential part of PC gaming and we're delighted to have every CORSAIR VOID headset Discord certified and ready for action."

"Corsair's Void USB surround headset is a perfect choice for PC gamers who require headsets which can provide Dolby headphone surround sound without burning their pockets. With seven different models to choose from, including the all new VOID Surround with universal console compatibility, no matter what gamer's gameplay is there is a VOID made just for them." said M A Mannan, Country Manager at Corsair.

That which we call "a rose by other name, would smell as sweet"

Cyber Terrorism sends shivers down the spine to the best of the best CISOs, however when we look into the murky world of Exploit Kits, Malwares and APTs, we find that this is not just the playground for cyber criminals but also for Governments.

For the past few years, since the discovery of Stuxnet, Government Sponsored Cyber Attacks were nothing more than a fairy tale. However, this changed soon.

Exploit-kits, Botnets and others catered to a market of cyber-criminals, a market-place was created where exploits, vulnerabilities, log in credentials were traded and cyber-criminals were given the technical know-how on how to implement and carry-on with their nefarious activities.

However, unknown too many, there were many organizations who officially invested and traded into finding exploits and vulnerabilities and their clientele were none other than the Governments. A different kind of market has now emerged, which caters to the Governments, Law Enforcement Agencies, and the Intelligence agencies whose primary task is spying.

The first known instance of such a service being made available to the Law enforcement Agencies was D.I.R.T. - Data Interception by Remote Transmission and was exposed by the media way back in 2002. However, according to the reports this service has been in existence since the late 90's, which if summarized correctly, almost since the boom of internet. Moreover, DIRT was nothing more than a RAT (Remote Access Trojan) and the only way in were through emails. Spear-Phishing / Water Holing attacks are the terms used now-a-days however, during those days, no such terminology existed.

Late 90's was the time when Internet was gaining its foothold and was still considered in its nascent stages, however, as surprising as it may sound, Governments were the first to understand the power which comes from controlling and spying on Internet and Internet connected devices. It has been alleged that

"A closely-held software package designed to allow law enforcement agencies to secretly monitor a suspect's computer turned up on an anonymous Web site in the Netherlands Wednesday, along with user manuals, financial information, contracts and invoices apparently stolen from the company that makes the surveillance tool." A1

Moreover, the stash of documents also included
"But files included in the Netherlands stash appear to identify several organizations that received price quotes from Codex, including the Egyptian and Ukrainian governments, and the U.S. District Court of New Jersey's Pretrial Services Division, responsible for supervising criminal defendants as they await trial." A2

The year was 2002, and there was a bleak reminder of the services which Governments are willing to invest the tax-payers money, in order to conduct an espionage operation.

Coming back to present times, Hacking TeamA3 , a private intelligence contractor which develops and sells hacking tools to governments around the world, was hacked by a hacker and all their emails, source codes , almost 400GB of data was siphoned off and is now available for public scrutiny on WikiLeaks A4.

Up till now we have discussed the evolution of tools and organization which cater specifically to Governments and Law Enforcement Agencies. Why do Governments want to control Internet and spy on devices attached to it, is a question which crops up in our minds.

The best case-study to answer this question is Stuxnet. Stuxnet was designed to attack nuclear reactors of Iran and its job was to ensure that the telemetry devices and other devices critical for smooth functioning of the reactor malfunctioned randomly, which will effectively slow down the scientific advancements.

This act is nothing less than a terrorist attack and it has been alleged that Stuxnet was created by a Government to attack another country's infrastructure. There have been many such instances wherein it is virtually impossible for a waylaid hacker to carry out attacks on Water Plants, Electricity Grids without being sponsored by a State.

It's not just the finances which are of concern, but also the technicality involved and the complexity of carrying out these attacks are of prime importance. Numerous governments have been using malwares to attack the activists, journalists and all those who, according to the government, are working against them.

There is a very thin line between State Sponsored Cyber Terrorism and the terrorists themselves and from a holistic point of view, the line itself is blurred, when we treat a malware as a malware and an APT as an APT and not segregate these attacks as State sponsored or an activity by a Cyber Criminal.

Whether a malware is created by a Law Enforcement Agency or by a Criminal, it still remains a malware, whose primary task is to steal your data and control your devices.

LeEco All-Metal Earphones Review: Decent Sound Quality in a Well-Built Package

In-ear earphones come with their own set of positives and negatives. But what happens when a company makes a set that has been priced competitively and is actually great in terms of styling? That is exactly what LeEco has done with their all-metal earphones which are priced at Rs 1,499.

Right out of the box you will appreciate the metal finish along with a neatly placed copper ring that gives the earphones a premium yet classy look. The wiring is plenty, measuring 1.1 metres in length and is made up of flexible thermoplastic for added strength and do not get tangled easily.

The all-metal design approach continues on the inside of the earphones too as it features a metallic resonance cavity. The Driver casings are designed and made with sound-insulating material to reduce external noise and minimise sound leakage. Even the filters are made of metallic fibre.

The three-key in-line control allows for answering calls and adjusting volume levels and have a good tactile feedback. The 3.5 mm audio jack is gold plated and also encased in a metal housing.

Inside the box, you also get a leather pouch which snaps close with the help of magnets and is a good way to carry your earphones wherever you go. A total of three silica gel earbuds are offered in various sizes as well so that the user can choose whichever suits them the best.

The biggest question though is how the earphones sound and the answer to that is wonderful. The mid-range frequencies are delivered strongly and are suitable for most genres of music. Although, hardcore bass lovers will be left wanting a little bit more ‘thump’.

So it looks good, comes with a fancy carry bag and basically gets the job done for regular users who simply want good quality sound delivery from well-built, well-styled earphones.

I have been toying with the idea of taking up one of those challenges where you switch to a dumb-phone for a fixed period, usually a week. Imagine what it would be like to not receive a notification for hours at a stretch! I carry a basic Nokia phone as my backup device buy never used it as my primary phone.

So the quest began.

I tried switching to a feature phone a few years ago. That phase lasted barely a few days because it couldn’t sync my contacts of about 2,000 entries. Besides, I don’t see myself as the kind of person who writes down phone numbers in a pocket diary and carry it around. Hence, I had one criteria – the dumb-phone should sync with my phone book. I also like the idea of knowing who’s calling me. In fact, not knowing who is on line is even considered rude today.

Most feature phones don’t automatically sync contacts, and these can manually accept only upto 200 contact entries. The only feature phone that fit my criteria of syncing contacts was the Punkt MP01.

But wait before you order it. The phone costs approximately USD 340, which is about INR 22,500! For a basic phone that does nothing but make calls and receive text messages, it seems like a satirical take on the situation. There’s no way I would put that kind of money down for a little experiment.

Finding the perfect dumb-phone was a failed mission.

I took a second look at the phone in my hand – a OnePlus 2 – and thought, “What if I find a minimal ROM that dumbs it down?”

I decided to play with what I have but reduce the distraction of a smartphone. I recalled one of Unbox Therapy’s videos where Lew, the host, tries to survive a week without a smartphone but gives up because he felt that phones are an extension of us these days.

It struck a chord, and I realised I wanted to declutter, not switch off from the Internet. There’s clutter, but it’s not pure evil, right? There are perks too – it helps me organise my life.

Goals re-evaluated! This time, I decided didn’t want a email, news apps, e-commerce or social media. Just my contacts and minimal apps.

If you travel a lot like I do, apps like Google Calendar, phonebook, Google Maps, aWallet etc. can keep you sane. You probably know that already. And an occasional dose of the Internet can’t harm us much. On the other hand, apps like Facebook, Instagram, e-commerce, eMail, Flipboard etc. can suck you into a vortex where time isn’t a dimension (Yeah, I just watched that Christopher Nolan movie again). I had fun with some delete-delete-delete, and I finally have only these apps on my phone:

ActionVOIP – VOIP calling
Amazon Kindle – eBook reading
Apple Music – Music is a good way to spend time commuting
Authenticator – Google 2-step verification
aWallet Cloud PasswordManager – We all need something like this
Bubble Level – I use it at work
Calendar – Google calendar manages my scheduling
Camera – of course!
Chrome – for that emergency browsing or checking emails
Clock – alarms
Dropbox – I keep all work related documents here
Evernote – My go-to note taking app
FinchVPN – for when I connect to hotel or public WIFI
Fing – I use this at work
Google – Google now is a great assistant. I have turned off all cards expect travel and bill reminders
Maps – google maps
Messenger – googles bare-bones SMS app
Nova Launcher
Play Store
Pocket – offline reading
Polaris Office
Poweramp – Music player
QuickPic – Gallery app replacement
Real Calc – I use this at work. Use the stock calc if that you don’t need the extra features
Sheets – I use google sheets a lot
Super Backup – my go-to back up app
WhatsApp – this is the new SMS
WIFI Analyser – use this at work and home
Wunderlist – my to-do list
Everything else was uninstalled. The default apps – the ones that can’t be uninstalled – have been disabled. The result? My days have suddenly become longer, in a good way!

I’ve lasted a week now, and I must say it is great. I don’t get irrelevant notifications, I’m not constantly checking my emails. Can you even imagine the time I save when I don’t browse through Flipboard, Youtube, social media or e-commerce apps looking through stuff I don’t need but end up buying.

I am much more productive now. I get on to my computer or tablet to get work done – which I think is a much better way to work. On our phones, we fool ourselves thinking we’re productive with constant email and news notifications. And anyway, in about 30 seconds, you would be drawn to a totally irrelevant article or drift into a stream of social media posts. I always was.

So now, I pick my phone up only for calls, to answer messages, read an e-book or listen to music. It comes with a bonus – my phone needs to be charged only once every two days!

Sooner or later, we need to realise that smartphones are an extension of us. You decide upto what extent to depend on it. Use it wisely, or it will take over your life.

MSAI teams up with Nirbhaya Jyoti Trust to launch I Feel SafeTM Safety Ka Power ButtonSM mobile app to enhance the safety of women and children

  • App unveiled by Mother of 'Nirbhaya' Smt. Asha Devi in the presence of dignitaries and leading women and child rights activists
  • Dedication Ceremony witnesses enthusiastic turnout of over 500 Delhi University students and representatives of leading women's organisations

NEW DELHI, India- August 9, 2016

Mobile Standards Alliance of India (MSAI) teamed up with Nirbhaya Jyoti Trust to enhance the safety of women and children of India.

The I Feel SafeTM Safety Ka Power ButtonSM mobile app was launched by Smt. Asha Devi, mother of 'Nirbhaya' at a well attended ceremony held today at Delhi University's North Campus Convention Centre. Dr. Kiran Agarwal, Paediatrician and Child Rights Activist; Dr. Manu Kataria, Associate Professor, Bhaskaracharya College of Applied Sciences, University of Delhi; Ms. Leher Sethi, Social Activist; Mr. Badri Singh, father of 'Nirbhaya', and Mr. Shriniwas, National Joint Organising Secretary, ABVP also graced the occasion to lend their voice to pressing issues of women's safety and security.

Speaking on the occasion, mother of 'Nirbhaya', Smt. Asha Devi said, "I greatly appreciate the support and motivation that the youth of this country and leaders like Shri Harsh Vardhan and other dignitaries have given to Nirbhaya Jyoti Trust and the cause of Indian women in the last nearly four years. It is my fervent wish that every girl should be able to live a wholesome life and step out of home without the fear of molestation and violence. I am happy that MSAI have developed the 'I Feel Safe' mobile app for this purpose."
"For centuries, women in India have suffered social strictures and abuse. It is important to change societal mindsets so that every girl of our country receives the respect which is her due and shines in life in her chosen field be it science, engineering, medicine, sports, dance, music or any other field of human endeavour," conveyed Shri Harsh Vardhan, Minister of Science and Technology, Government of India in his message.

The "I Feel Safe" mobile app, powered by Nirbhaya Jyoti Trust, is a personal safety application for smartphone users. 'I Feel Safe' instantly adds a virtual panic button. Mobile phone owners can simply press the "Safety Ka Power Button" five times to activate an alarm. The app does not need to be invoked for the safety alarm feature to work. In fact, it works even if the screen of the phone is locked, the SIM card has been removed, no Wi-Fi networks are available and without the need to subscribe to a data plan. The app works across India on all mobile networks and sends near real-time updates about the location of the mobile user.

In the event of an emergency, I Feel SafeTM notifies the user's emergency contacts with the longitude and latitude of their current location. It places an automatic call to the national emergency number 100 and the location of the potential victim is tracked every 30 seconds and made available to their emergency contacts, as well as the I Feel SafeTM emergency call centre team, who then reach out to provide support, to overcome the emergency situation.

I compliment MSAI and Nirbhaya Jyoti Trust for taking the initiative to develop this app. It will not only create a safe environment for women but, it should also help to bring into focus key socio-economic issues impacting the women of India - quality healthcare, education and equal employment opportunities. Delhi Police will extend all possible support in this movement to empower the nation's women," stated Shri Robin Hibu, IPS, Joint Commissioner of Police, Delhi.

"The I Feel SafeTM mobile app addresses the growing need in the country to ensure better personal safety of women and girls if they are threatened with physical abuse or assault. This personal safety solution can also be availed by senior citizens, and anyone who senses a threat to his or her personal safety," stated Ms. Bhawna Kumari, Business Head, MSAI.

"This personal safety power button empowers women by giving them access to a reliable safety tool at all times. Women can avail 24 x 7 service and ensure safety for themselves and their loved ones. There is no charge for using the I Feel SafeTM mobile app," Bhawna concluded.

The dedication ceremony was also attended by representatives from leading women's organisations and many young female students.

Transcend’s DrivePro Car Video Recorders: Drive Safer with a Reliable Eyewitness

Bengaluru, India, August 9, 2016 - Transcend Information, Inc. a leading manufacturer of storage and multimedia products, is proud to announce the complete DrivePro Car Video Recorder series, including the DrivePro 50, DrivePro 100, DrivePro 200, DrivePro 220, and DrivePro 520. Day or night, your DrivePro Car Video Recorder is your most reliable eyewitness on the road.

Every model in the DrivePro series captures crystal-clear Full HD 1080P (1920 x 1080) video at 30 frames every second, faithfully recording everything happening on the road with its wide 130° to 160° viewing angle and large aperture lens.

Your DrivePro safeguards your valuable video record with its built-in battery to keep recording for 30 seconds in the event of power failure or interruption, plus the G-sensor emergency recording function protects video files from erasure after any unusual shock or impact is detected. The Auto Power On/Off feature ensures your DrivePro is ready whenever you need it.

The bright built-in 2.4" color LCD screen lets you review video at any time, and your recordings can also be copied to PCs and other devices, and viewed with Transcend’s free-to-download DrivePro PC Tool for Windows. There’s also a quick snapshot feature to take photos at any time.

Capture every detail and every moment

The camera of a Transcend car video recorder is built to the highest optical standards, to capture critical details such as license plates, even in sub-optimal conditions. The DrivePro camera uses not just one, but 6 or even 7 glass lenses, plus an infrared filter lens, for sharp and clear images. Unlike competing products, this design avoids fogging from heat generated during long periods of operation, reliably recording in difficult conditions. The large aperture of the lens, from F/1.8 up to F/2.0, ensures clarity in low light.

Powerful navigation, driving assistance, and safety features

Choose the DrivePro that's most suitable for you. Start your journey into car video recording with the entry-level DrivePro 50 and DrivePro 100, move up a gear to the DrivePro 200 and 220, or accelerate to the front of the field with the powerful DrivePro 520. Features available in the range include GPS, rear-facing in-car camera, collision warning and driving assistance, and a mobile app with Wi-Fi connectivity.

The top-of-the-line DrivePro 520 features a dual lens camera: drivers can clearly capture both the road and the interior of the vehicle simultaneously, thanks to the rotatable rear lens with infrared LEDs for night vision.

Both the DrivePro 520 and the DrivePro 220 record GPS coordinates along with video, to precisely determine the location of an incident, or to display your journey path later with the free PC software.

The DrivePro 220 also offers innovative driving assistance functions, including Forward Collision Warning System (FCWS) to keep a safe distance at speed, Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) to warn if the vehicle is drifting out its lane while moving at high speed, and Parking Mode, to record video and capture evidence automatically if the car is bumped while parked unattended.

DrivePro series car video recorders all include a free high endurance microSD Card, and are available with a choice of either a suction mount or adhesive mount and include a car lighter power adapter. Every DrivePro product is protected by Transcend’s two-year Limited Warranty.
